According to Entertainment Weekly, Katherine Heigl is planning a 5 episode hiatus from Grey’s Anatomy this season. Reportedly, the time off for Katherine is to film a new romantic comedy, “Life as We Know It.” More than likely the 5 episodes will begin in November and will overlap with the maternity leave of co-star, Ellen Pompeo.
To help fill the empty hospital, the show has added three new doctors to the cast — to be played by Nora Zehetner, Robert Baker, and Jesse Williams. Additionally, an ABC rep says the more character-centric episodes this season will help distract from the other absences.
