Former New York Mets GM and current ESPN broadcaster, Steve Phillips has gotten himself into a little bit of trouble.
After reports broke earlier this week about his rumored affair with ESPN Assistant, Brooke Hundley, additional details have unfolded, even a 911 call from Steve’s wife, Marni.
Brooke had apparently been a little upset that Steve ended the consensual affair and began harassing his wife and family. In an interview with police, Marni told police she began receiving repeated calls and text messages threatening to expose the affair in detail.
Steve has issued the following statement : “I am deeply sorry that I have put my family and colleagues through this. It is a personal matter that I will not comment on further. I have, however, asked for a leave of absence to address this with my family and to avoid any unnecessary distractions through the balance of the baseball playoffs.”
ESPN released the following statement: “We were aware of this and took appropriate disciplinary action at the time. We have granted Steve’s request for an extended leave of absence to allow him to address it. We have no further comment.”
Steve and Marni have 4 sons together.

“She reached me via cell phone at 10:30 that evening. I simply told her that I would not accept her phone and promptly hung up. She responded by calling our home and my cell phone repeatedly. It was close to 11 pm and the constant ringing of phone in the house caused stress to myself and my two teenage sons who were awake. I was able to reach Steve who was working late at ESPN in Bristol, CT. He came home that night and revealed to me he had been having a brief consensual affair with a woman named Brooke Hundley at ESPN.”
“On Sunday August 16 my husband called me from Atlanta and told me to brace myself because she was threatening to call me and disclose intimate details of their affair. .. The tone of the text message [she sent] was “I care about Steve, I make him happy and we both can’t have him.”
“At this point I began to feel a heightened sense of vulnerability as this woman was aware of my husband’s rigorous travel schedule. I was unable to sleep. I paced the perimeter of my house, constantly checking the safety of my sons.”
“Needless to say, as a mother with four young sons, I am terrified. I fear greatly for the safety and well being of my sons and for myself. … I am currently pursuing drastic and costly security precautions such as hiring an off duty Wilton Police officer to stand guard.”
