Stefanie Spielman, wife of former NFL and Ohio State Buckeye star, Chris Spielman has died from her decade long battle with Breast Cancer.

Stefanie was diagnosed in 1998 at the young age of 31. Chris famously left his position with the NFL franchise, Buffalo Bills when Stephanie began treatment to stand by her side.

After her initial diagnosis and Stefanie was doing well, she and Chris started The Stefanie Spielman Fund, benefiting The Ohio State University James Cancer Center. Over the past several years they have raised more than $6 Million dollars for the cancer research center.

Chris and Stefanie have 4 children, Madison, 15, Noah, 13, Macy, 8 and Audrey, 7. Stefanie was also survived by her mother, Myra Belcher of Upper Arlington, and sisters Sue (Bill) Fitz of Upper Arlington, Sandy Belcher of Florida and Cindy Belcher of California. Stefanie’s father, Richard, preceded her in death in 1987.

Chris said in a statement today, “Stefanie has gone home to be with the Lord. For that, we celebrate, but with broken hearts. I want to thank everyone for their support over the last 12 years. Together, with your help, hopefully we made a difference in this fight.”

There will be public calling hours at the Longaberger Alumni House on Olentangy River Road on Monday from 1 to 8 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church on Cambridge Boulevard.

Local news in Columbus, Ohio WBNS, put together the moving tribute to Stefanie.
