Ashlee works on new album

According to EW.com Ashlee Simpson is collaborating with Robert Smith on her new album, as well as with Timbaland, John Legend, Kenna, and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes.

What happens in Austin, stays in Austin? Not when it’s new-album news about Ashlee Simpson, straight from the horse’s mouth! (Or, more accurately, the mouth of the horse’s dad-slash-manager). At a late-night SXSW showcase by Ethiopian-born alt-pop artist Kenna, two of EW’s intrepid reporters spotted Simpson père Joe, who filled us in on his daughter’s plans for her upcoming 2007 release.

The album involves Kenna (whose own album is due this June) and his buddy and producer Chad Hugo — a.k.a., the member of production über-duo the Neptunes who is not Pharrell Williams. Mr. Simpson tells us Ashlee, Chad, and Kenna were in the studio writing songs earlier this month, and that she’s also working with Timbaland, John Legend, and Tim Rice-Oxley of Brit sensations Keane, who teamed up with Gwen Stefani on ”Early Winter,” one of the strongest, most reflective tracks on her recent Sweet Escape album.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, rap producer Timbaland reveals that he will be collaborating with Justin Timberlake and Madonna on a music project together. Absolutely cannot wait to hear that one!

In other JT news, Justin is apparently too sexy for the Tennessee Legislature. State Sen. Ophelia Ford had introduced a resolution to honor Tennessee native JT “for his highly successful music career and for his meritorious service to the State of Tennessee.” Republican State Senator Raymond Finney removed the resolution due in part to JT’s song and album titles, including FutureSex/LoveSounds and “SexyBack.” “It’s not something I want my name on,” Finney said.

According to MTV, Timbaland wants to bring Britney back to proclaim once-stellar career with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake onboard.

Timbaland was quoted sayng; “I feel her pain, it really bothers me,” the 34-year-old rapper-producer says in an interview in Entertainment Weekly magazine’s March 16 issue. “I’m the type of person who tries to save the world. I just want to take her away, go overseas, and work (it) out.”

Timbaland says he invited Timberlake, his “best friend” and Spears’ ex-boyfriend, to be part of that plan.

“I asked Justin, ‘How would you feel about me working with Britney?’ I had to ask him that,” Timbaland is quoted as saying. “I said, ‘Would you do it with me?”‘

The 26-year-old “SexyBack” singer said he would, according to Timbaland, who notes: “She’s just gotta be serious.”

Timberlake’s spokeswoman, Sonia Muckle, referred inquiries to Timbaland’s spokeswoman, Monique Idlett, who didn’t immediately respond to a phone call Wednesday from The Associated Press. Gina Orr, a publicist at Jive Records, Spears’ label, didn’t immediately respond to an e-mail message.

Last month, Spears, 25, checked into Promises Malibu drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in California, capping a week of bizarre behavior in which she entered and exited rehab twice, shaved her head bald and went out clubbing with friends.

“I just want to hold her hand,” Timbaland says. “I want her to be in my camp, to be around Justin. I need Justin to talk to her. Help her, please!”

Timbaland to release new pop album titled Shock Value

Thanks to his work on recent projects by Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, as well as the upcoming 50 Cent LP, Timbaland is enjoying what he’s been accustomed to for the past 10 years of his career — success.

Well somebody call Blade, because Count Drac is wide awake and ready to wreak even more havoc next year when his upcoming LP, tentatively titled Timbaland Presents Shock Value, comes out. “I’m not just hip-hop,” Tim insisted. “My mission is to take over top-40 radio — what they call popular music, different genres of music — and reach all types of people.”

Though the album is packed with headline-making names, Tim’s first single is already newsworthy. “Give it to Me” has Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake and Tim throwing subliminal jabs in their verses, and it’s up to the audience to figure it out what — or who — they’re talking about. “I seen you try to switch it up, but girl you ain’t that dope,” Furtado sings. Tim’s verse includes the lines, “I’m a real producer and you just a piano man/ Your song moved up the charts I heard, but I’m not a fan/ N—as talking greasy, I’m the one that gave them they chance/ Somebody need to tell them they can’t do it like I can.”

The Internet has been most abuzz about Timberlake’s verse, though, with gossip sites speculating that his harsh words are aimed at Janet Jackson: “I saw you tryin’ to act cute on TV, ‘Just let me clear the air’/ We missed you on the charts last week/ Damn, that’s right, you wasn’t there/ Now if sexy never left, then why is everybody on my sh–?/ Don’t hate on me just because you didn’t come up with it.”

A source close to the record said that Timberlake’s lyrics have nothing to do with his infamous Super Bowl co-star — but he is responding to another pop artist who has seen career heights few other singers can boast.

Tim’s album will come out via his Mosley Music imprint, like Nelly Furtado’s Loose. He’s hoping to have the LP ready for a March release date.
